Introducing Greeneville Chiropractor Dr. Clifford Bryant
He just has “weak bronchial tubes,” is what a worried mother was told by the doctor.
That statement was made to my mother when I was just a little feller. I was very prone to respiratory infections. If the cold wind blew on me, I’d get a cold or the croup or even pneumonia. Actually, there’s really not such a condition; however; I guess it placated my mother. That was during a time when most folks still took what the doctor said as the gospel.
It was also during this time that my daddy injured his back on the job. He was a fireman in Montgomery, AL. He went through the traditional medical route of drugs and eventually surgery, which didn’t do much good and he continued to suffer and ultimately had to retire on disability. At some point a friend recommended that he see a Chiropractor. The chiropractic treatments were the only thing that gave him any relief.
During the summer after my 3rd grade, we moved about 70 miles farther North of Montgomery, close to where my mother and daddy were raised. Daddy started seeing a different Doctor of Chiropractic, Dr. Robert Steele. During the course of treatments, my daddy mentioned my respiratory condition and Dr. Steele told him that he could help me. I started receiving Chiropractic adjustments that summer. The following school year, I only had one cold. That was a huge change. From then on and even now, if I stay adjusted regularly, I rarely get sick.
Like many little boys, I wanted to be a fighter jet pilot and probably would have, except for a little thing called myopia, or nearsightedness. I had to start wearing glasses in the fifth grade. The Air Force has some silly rule about not wanting vision-impaired folks flying their multi-million dollar aircraft, so my career path had to change. By the 7th grade, I had decided I wanted to be a doctor. Initially, I intended to go the traditional medical route and become an MD; however; after some long discussions with Dr. Steele, on the philosophy of treating folks without drugs and surgery and helping them regain their health by natural means, I decided that Chiropractic was the path for me.
There was an Accelerated Credits program that allowed high GPA students to attend college while still in high school, so I started college during the summer between my 11th and 12th grades of high school. After high school graduation, I went right into college, without taking any summers off. I attended two different undergraduate schools to obtain all my prerequisites for graduate school. I began my Chiropractic studies in the fall of 1983 at Life Chiropractic College in Marietta, GA and graduated in 1987. By pushing straight through, at age 25, I had earned my DC, Doctor of Chiropractic, degree in 7 calendar years, instead of the normal 8.
Now some of you might wonder what brought an Alabama Red-Neck to Upper-East Tennessee to practice. Well there’s a saying that goes something like this. “Behind every successful man is a woman that will make him move.” While in graduate school, I met a beautiful young lady from Greeneville, Deborah Jane McNew. She was visiting a friend that happened to be a classmate of mine. After a few months of long distance dating, I decided that I couldn’t live without her. In all honesty, I truly believe that the Lord made that decision for me, because after 20+ years of marriage, I can still say that she’s one of the best things that ever happened to me. We have two wonderful children. Clancy McAlister, born in 1993 and Emily Jane, born in 1994. We are members of Towering Oaks Baptist Church in Greeneville.
My son and I enjoy hunting and shooting together and the whole family enjoys camping, white water rafting and bike riding. Both children have attended Towering Oaks Christian School since Pre-School and both play basketball. My daughter also loves singing and dance as well as performing in plays at Tusculum College and the Little Theater. Emily and her mother also enjoy scrap booking.
In addition to being a Doctor, husband and father, I’m also a Firearms and Personal Protection Instructor and a competitive combat shooter. I’m the Director and Chief Instructor for TAC2-Tactical Advantage Concepts 2000. We offer basic to advanced firearms training as well as Personal and Business Security Consulting. You can check out what we offer at our web site: www.tac2.com.
Prior to attending graduate school, there were some things, about Chiropractic, I was not fully aware of. Some of these were that we studied from the exact same books and took basically the same classes as our MD colleagues and that it actually takes more class hours to receive a DC degree than an MD degree. While an MD spends more time studying drugs, surgery and psychiatry, we spent considerably more time in radiology, physical diagnosis and anatomy. Part I of our National Board exams are essentially the same also.
As my education progressed and I learned how our bodies “really” work, I began to realize that we don’t have pain because our bodies are low on Feldene, Darvocet, Flexeril, or any other drug. We suffer because something is wrong within and the drugs only mask the symptoms, they don’t correct the problem. “Drugs make you feel better while you die.” As I mentioned elsewhere, I truly believe that God created our bodies to be self-healing, provided we get the proper rest, exercise, nutrition and there’s no interference with any of our systems. Of course I don’t know anyone who does all that, so our bodies already have a strike or two against us. I find that if I get adjusted at least once a month on a routine basis and more often when I’m injured or have other stress, and I get proper rest exercise and nutrition, then I don’t get sick. Now, one of the really hard parts of all this, is the proper nutrition part. As much as we might try, we simply can’t get the nutrition we need in today’s environment. That’s why my family and I take Juice Plus. In 17+ years of practice, Juice Plus is the ONLY nutritional supplement I have ever put on my counter and promoted to my patients. In reality it’s not a “supplement” at all. It’s WHOLE FOOD NUTRITION. To learn more about Juice Plus, ask my staff or I, or go to our web site at: www.juiceplusnaturesdesign.com I firmly believe that everyone should add Juice Plus to their diet. It has made a significant difference in my family’s lives.
I don’t pretend to know all the answers. I think we already have enough doctors that think they do, but if I don’t know, then I’ll do my best to find the right answer for you. I also know that there’s never been a doctor anywhere that’s cured anyone of anything. Again, I know there are a lot of them that think they have, but all healing comes from God. The best we can do as doctors is to help remove some of the interference and allow the body to work as God intended.
